On Friday, May 24, 2019, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall announcement that South Shore Industries was recalling a popular 3-drawer chest because of the potential for tip-overs.
The South Shore dresser was recalled because it is unstable if not anchored to a wall, which poses a serious tip-over and/or entrapment hazard that can and has lead to the death of a child.
The dressers were sold online at Target, Walmart, and on Amazon.com, as well as other retailers. South Shore sold approximately 310,00 units before issuing the recall notice.
Tip-over Injuries Reported
According to the CPSC, South Shore has received two reports of tip-over incidents involving the recalled chests of drawers. One report stated that a child received bruises on his leg and scratches. Another incident reported a fatality involving a two-year-old and an unanchored, empty 3-drawer chest.
