On July 30, 2026 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning to consumers to immediately cease using electric blanket.
According to the CPSC, the blanket’s electrical cord can detach and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire, burn and shock hazards.
There are currently 555 reports of the blankets melting, sparking and smoking, resulting in 15 burn or electrical shock injuries.
Are the Electric Blankets Recalled?
Yes, Hangzhouyuefangjiajuyongpinyouxiangongsi, dba OCTROT, of China announced a product safety recall.
This recall involves OCTROT-branded electric blankets. The sherpa blankets were sold in gray and yellow, white with gray, white with yellow, white with blue and white with red. The blankets have a white controller with five temperature settings. The brand name and one of the following model numbers:
- OCT-5060
- OCT-5062
- OCT-6248
- OCT-7284
- OCT-8490
can be found printed on the product packaging.
The electric blankets were sold through Amazon.com from Aug.2021 through Dec. 2025 for between $40 and $60.
