What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled electric bicycle’s lithium-ion battery can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The CPSC has received at least three reports of fires involving these bikes and warns consumers to stop using them immediately.
Why Do E-Bikes Pose a Fire Hazard?
The main danger of e-bikes catching fire is their lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat, explode, or ignite if damaged in a crash or dropped, exposed to extreme heat or moisture, or made with poor-quality parts or manufacturing defects. Once a fire starts, it can spread quickly, burn intensely, and be difficult to put out. These fires have caused serious injuries, deaths, and significant property damage.
