What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled electric blankets can overheat and ignite, posing burn and fire hazards. Yumo Commerce and Trade Corporation has received at least 34 reports of overheating, including three reports of burn injuries and two reports that the fire blankets caught on fire. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the electric blankets immediately.
Is My Electric Blanket Included in this Recall?
The June 18, 2025, recall includes about 9,000 MaxKare Electric Blankets with six heating levels and a nine-hour auto-off function. The blankets were sold in three sizes: twin, full, and queen. The following model numbers are included in the recall: HB18A-7284-1, HB18A-8490-2, and HB18A-6284-1. The brand name, MaxKare, and the model numbers are on the blankets’ tags. The blankets come in gray and brown and are machine washable.
The MaxKare Electric Blankets were sold exclusively online at Walmart.com from June 2021 to November 2024 for between $27 and $80.
What are the Dangers of Electric Blankets?
A study by the Electrical Safety Foundation International estimates that approximately 500 house fires are caused each year by electric blankets or heating pads.
