Vornado recalled its Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons and Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons due to overheating and shock hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted the recall on Apr. 27, 2023.
Why were Vornado’s steam irons recalled?
If the steam iron’s power cord is damaged near the base, the cord could overheat, posing fire and burn injury hazards. Additionally, the exposed cord poses a shock hazard.
Vornado received 50 reports of incidents. 38 of these reports stated that the power cord smoked, sparked, or burned its surroundings. 12 reports detailed cord damages.
Approximately 317,000 units were recalled, with an additional 5,000 in Canada.
What models of Vornado’s steam irons are recalled?
Two types of Vornado steam irons were recalled, the Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons with Dual Voltage, and the Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons.
Vornado’s recalled Steamfast Home & Away Travel Steam Irons with Dual Voltage has the following model numbers and production date codes:
- SF-717 | JAN08 through MAR17
- SF-720 | JAN08 through MAR17
- SF-727| JAN17 only
The Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Irons’ recall only consists of model number 606335, and affects all production date codes.
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled steam irons. For more information about the recall, consult the CPSC website.
