On Nov. 13, 2025, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning to consumers to immediately cease using the recalled Tesla Powerwall.
Due to a potential issue with the lithium-ion battery in the power system, the unit may cease functioning and overheat. This could lead to the product smoking or catching on fire, which poses a safety risk to consumers.
There are currently 22 reports of this product overheating. This includes six reports of the powerwall smoking, and five reports of the item catching on fire.
Are the Tesla Powerwalls Recalled?
Yes. Tesla, Inc., of Reno, Nevada has announced a product safety recall.
This recall involves certain Tesla Powerwall 2 units, fully-integrated AC battery systems used for energy storage and backup power.
Model number “Powerwall 2” is printed on the nameplate label on the side of the unit.
The power banks were sold online at Tesla.com/powerwall and through certified Tesla installers nationwide from Nov. 2020 through Dec. 2022 for about $8,000.
