Magnetic Chess Game Recall Lawsuit

Magnetic chess games, which go by the names of “Magnetic,” “Magnetism,” and “Magnetism Intelligence Strategy Game,” have been recalled. The lawyers at Johnson//Becker, PLLC, are currently accepting new lawsuits for recalled magnetic battle chess games. Learn more below.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the 20-piece magnet game violates the mandatory federal toy magnet regulation because the set contains one or more magnets that fit within the CPSC’s small parts cylinder and are stronger than permitted. The CPSC’s June 13, 2024, recall states, “When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract to each other, or another metal object, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning, and death.”

The CPSC’s recall involves about 2,600 magnetic games. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the games immediately. The games are sold in a blue box with 20 strong magnets. They also include a string, a plastic storage tray with a sponge lining, and instructions for play. The magnet sets were exclusively sold online at Temu.com between December 2023 and February 2024 for about $8.

The CPSC estimates there have been 2,400 hospital visits for ingested magnets from 2017 through 2021. Seven deaths have been reported since 2005 due to the ingestion of magnets.
