What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled shape sorter car toys contain balls that violate regulations banning small parts in toys intended for children under three years of age because they are a choking hazard. Individual pieces are not allowed to fit inside the test cylinder (which simulates the size of young children’s throats), ensuring products are safe for young children.
Is My Child’s Toy Included in this Recall?
The April 24, 2025, recall includes about 6,000 Kids Thrill Shape Sorter Cars Hammer Toys (model number MZL-038). The cars are sold in a box titled “Kids Thrill 2 in 1 Shape Sorter Car.” The wooden toy vehicles include two wooden mallets and wooden pieces in various shapes, including balls, stars, and hearts. The bottom of the car has a label with the words “BEDLEE BARGAIN, INC. BROOKLYN, NY BATCH NO. BEDLEE220801 PRODUCTION DATE: AUG 2022 MADE IN SHANGOU, CHINA.”
The recalled toys were sold exclusively online at Amazon.com from October 2023 through January 2025 for about $12.
Choking Hazards to Children
Based on findings from the National Library of Medicine, from 2001 to 2016, there were a total of 305,814 nonfatal injuries and 2347 choking deaths in children from 0 to 19 years. Children under five years of age accounted for 73% of nonfatal injuries and 75% of choking fatalities.
