What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the mini fridges’ internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. Curtis International has received at least 26 reports of the mini fridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, and catching fire. The recall also indicated at least two injuries caused by smoke inhalation.
Is My Minifridge Included in This Recall?
The July 24, 2025, recall includes about 634,000 Frigidaire Mini Fridges (models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175). The model number is found on the back of the fridge. “Frigidaire” is printed on the front of the units. The mini fridges were sold in 6- and 9-can sizes. The fridges were sold in black, blue, green, white, yellow, red, pink, and silver.
The Frigidaire Mini Fridges were sold at Walmart and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Walmart.com and Amazon.com, from January 2020 through December 2023, for between $36 and $40.
