On Sept. 21, 2023, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled DR Power Equipment’s power chipper shredders due to a risk of injury.
According to the CPSC, pieces of metal can come loose from within the shredder and be forcefully ejected onto nearby consumers. This poses a risk of laceration (cutting). An additional hazard is that the hopper on the shredder can become detached from the shredder, posing injury risks to consumers.
The CPSC received 79 reports of the shredder’s parts coming loose from within the product, including two injury reports. Additionally, there have been three reports of hoppers unexpectedly detaching from the shredder.
Approximately 5,900 units were recalled, with an additional 90 in Canada.
What models of the power chipper shredders were recalled?
DR Power Equipment’s chipper shredders were sold in orange and black with a funnel at the top for shredding brush.
The recall affects DR Power Equipment Chipper Shredders with the following model numbers:
Model numbers are located on the side of the unit for model numbers starting with CS3. For model numbers starting with CS4, model numbers are located on a white label at the base of the machine.
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled power chipper shredders.
