What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lithium-ion battery in the power bank can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. Lithium-ion batteries are commonly found in smartphones, laptops, and rechargeable power banks. They are popular due to their lightweight design, rapid recharge capabilities, and ability to store a significant amount of energy in a compact space. However, some lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to a phenomenon known as thermal runaway.
Thermal runaway occurs when a device starts to overheat, and the resulting heat triggers chemical reactions that produce even more heat. This creates a loop where the temperature continues to rise. If it continues, it can lead to severe damage, such as melting, fire, or even an explosion.
