Immediately following the incident, Ms.Crump’s daughter and niece soaked her wounds in cold water. A burn unit visit had to be postponed to the following day, as the roads were dangerously covered in layers of snow and ice at the time the injury had been experienced. Crump spent the next two days in care of the hospital, with treatment ranging from infection prevention and skin graft application. The weeks and months that ensued required constant maintenance on Ms.Crump’s behalf in order to continue to care for her afflictions.
Although her injuries have healed, what Ms.Crump has endured far surpasses the physical scarring that can be seen on her body. She has lost her previously held joy in cooking, and the incident has left a profound impact on her family unit.
On July 25, 2025, I.S. Appliances, the manufacturer of the pressure cooker in question, Bon Appetit model number BAPCR010 , fell into default with the Southern District Court of Mississippi as the defendant had not offered a response or reply to the plaintiff, Ms.Crump. After having reviewed the case, the court was satisfied with the entry of default judgement and found the liability appropriate, awarding her $1,097,000.
