The litigation is currently comprised of approximately 37 cases. The lawsuits allege that Tepezza caused the users to develop hearing loss and tinnitus and that the company failed to provide an adequate warning of the risks of the drug.
Intended to treat thyroid eye disease or bulging eyes, Tepezza is a new-generation biologic treatment introduced by Horizon Therapeutics in January 2020. Since then, numerous case reports were published in the medical literature reporting links between the drug and patients experiencing hearing loss and tinnitus.
After oral arguments were made in May 2023, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation issued the transfer order on June 2, officially consolidating the Tepezza lawsuits in Illinois.
