What is Thermal Runaway?

Thermal runaway occurs when a device, such as a lithium-ion battery, overheats and triggers a chain reaction that causes it to become even hotter. It’s dangerous because it can cause fires, explosions, or release toxic gases, and is hard to stop once it starts.
