iHeat Heated Insoles Lawsuits: The CPSC Warns Consumers of Serious Burn Injuries

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using iHeat Heated Insoles immediately. The lawyers at Johnson//Becker, PLLC, are now accepting cases involving injuries from iHeat Heated Insoles.

What Are Heated Insoles?

Heated insoles are shoe inserts that warm your feet in cold weather. They work by using built-in heating elements (rechargeable lithium-ion batteries) to provide steady heat to the soles of your feet. Consumers use heated insoles for winter sports, hiking, working outdoors, or for people with poor circulation. However, recent reports alleging burn injuries caused by heated insoles have led to serious concerns about their safety.

What is the Problem?

According to the CPSC, the iHeat Heated Insoles’ internal lithium-ion batteries can explode and ignite, even when the insoles are turned off, posing a risk of severe burn injuries. The CPSC has received at least 11 reports of fires, explosions, or other thermal incidents involving heated insoles, including at least eight reports of burn injuries, with some resulting in second- and third-degree burns.

What Happens to Lithium-Ion Batteries During Thermal Runaway?

When heated insoles experience thermal runaway, the lithium-ion battery inside the insole becomes unstable and overheats uncontrollably. This heat can cause the internal parts of the battery to break down, releasing flammable gases. This causes the battery to heat up even more as the heat can’t escape fast enough. This leads to a rapid increase in temperature. The battery may burst, catch fire, or explode. In heated insoles, this is extremely dangerous because the battery is close to a consumer’s skin and inside enclosed shoes.

Are My Heated Insoles Included in this Recall?

The CPSC’s July 10, 2025, product safety warning specifies the iHeat (Zhangfengquing) Heated Insoles, which come in black or red. The insoles contain a lithium-ion battery, and a remote control powers them. The brand name “iHeat” is printed on the sole.

The recalled insoles were sold on Amazon from November 2022 through July 2024 for between $48 and $80. The products were manufactured in China.
