What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled bed rails violate federal regulations for adult portable bed rails, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. The CPSC created a mandatory safety rule for adult portable bed rails, effective August 21, 2023, requiring them to meet specific safety standards. These standards ensure that the rails stay in place, are strong, prevent entrapment, have safe openings, are easy to assemble correctly, and include clear warnings.
The recall states, “When the bed rails are attached to a bed, users can become entrapped with the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress.” The CPSC’s recall also states that the bed rails do not have the required warning labels.
