Kid Comfort Child Carriers Recall Lawsuit

Deuter has recalled its Kid Comfort, Kid Comfort Pro, and Kid Comfort Active Child Carriers. The lawyers at Johnson//Becker, PLLC, are currently accepting new cases for recalled child backpack carriers.

What is the Problem?

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the hinges on the foldable rear kickstand support leg can crack or break, posing a fall hazard. The CPSC has received at least 13 reports of the backpacks’ hinges cracking and breaking. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the child carriers immediately.

Is My Child Carrier Included in this Recall?

The May 8, 2025, recall includes about 5,080 Kid Comfort, Kid Comfort Pro, and Kid Comfort Active Child Carriers. The carriers have a backpack style with a foldable frame with hinges. They were sold in maroon and green forest (model 3621221), blue midnight (model 3621321), and teal (model 3621121). “Deuter” and the specific product name are printed on the back of the carrier.

The Kid Comfort Child Carriers were sold at REI, Bass Pro, and other stores in the United States, as well as online at Deuter.com, Amazon.com, and other websites, from March 2023 through March 2025, for between $240 and $370.

What are the Dangers Associated with Child Carrier Backpacks?

The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database indicates that 51 injuries were reported between January 1990 and September 1998. Of these injuries, 38 (74.5%) were head traumas and eight (15.7%) were facial traumas. Of the 51 injuries, 11 (22%) required hospitalization.
